Wardley Primary School

Early Years

At Wardley Primary School we strive to provide the best for every child as a unique individual, enabling them to build solid foundations for future learning.

Through a mixture of teacher led and child initiated activities, we strive to promote independence, confidence and resilience in our children, developing their communication skills and giving each child daily opportunities to share their thoughts and feelings.  We enable children to explore and be active in their own learning.

Play underpins learning across all aspects of children’s development in the Early Years.  Through play, children develop language skills, their emotions and creativity as well as social and intellectual skills. Play takes place indoors and outdoors and it is in these different environments that children explore and discover their immediate world. It is here they practise new ideas and skills,  take risks, show imagination and solve problems on their own or with others.

 The Characteristics of Effective Learning underpin learning and development across all areas and support the child to remain an active and motivated learner. These characteristics are:

In Reception, our curriculum is based around the following topics, which are broad and flexible to follow the developmental stages of our children, their needs and interests;
