Help Wardley achieve STEM for all!
Our 2024 STEM goals are:
- To embed robotics and engineering into the school curriculum.
- To send Team 38154B Wardley Primary School (current UK National Teamwork Champions) to Dallas in the USA to compete in the Vex Robotics World Championships in May.
- To hold our Annual STEM week in July.
- To develop our Wardley STEM Hub to make it a resource for the North East school community.
- To develop a robotics outreach program allowing our robotics coaches to facilitate robotics and engineering workshops in other North East primary schools.

Wardley Robotics, Wardley Primary School’s extra-curricular STEM club, has been inspiring the students of Wardley Primary School in Gateshead since 2018. In 2022 our work was recognised when one of our coaches was awarded the Most Inspirational North East Primary School Teacher (North East Stem Awards).
Wardley Robotics consistently produces some of the very best VEX IQ and First Lego League teams in the United Kingdom. For the second year running, we have won a number of national awards and qualified for the VEX Robotics World Championship in Dallas, Texas.
Despite being in its first year, Team 38154B, were hugely successful in both the regional competitions they entered winning the Teamwork Challenge, Robot Skills Award and the Amaze award at the County Durham Regional Qualifier and the Teamwork Challenge and Amaze Award at the Newcastle University Events. The Amaze award is presented to a team that has built an amazing, high-scoring robot that clearly demonstrates overall quality.

We are intensely proud of all the awards and accolades that our robotics program has won, but, that is not what make us successful. We measure success in terms of the difference it makes to the children. The life skills and mindset that they are developing every time they step into our Wardley STEM Hub or represent the school at a competition. We love the fact that the children are being introduced to a whole host of STEM careers through building and competing with robots. It is no surprise that children at Wardley Primary School are talking more and more about wanting careers in engineering, programming and managing once they leave school.
Everything we have achieved over the last six years has been made possible thanks to the generous support of others. For that we are eternally grateful.
For the last three years, our VEX IQ teams have been mentored by the Galactic Girls – a team from Florida. Last year, our Pupils learnt considerably from workshops run by Dr Steven Bunce, the Robotics Partnership Teacher and STEM Ambassador at Royal Grammar School. We have experienced the value of partnerships and mentoring and want to develop our program to support and inspire fellow Primary Schools. We are aware that our Wardley Primary STEM Hub, in particularly the Green Screen area we planning to develop within it, is a resource that could be used by neighbouring schools.
We are hoping you will partner with us in helping us achieve all our STEM goals for 2024. We are excited about being able to send Team 38154B to Dallas to represent the United Kingdom at the VEX Robotics World Championships in May.
