Friday 13 February 2026 From Sticks to Shapes In Maths this week, the children enjoyed exploring four-sided shapes using matchsticks. They used the matchsticks to build different quadrilaterals, carefully counting sides and corners to make sure each shape had four straight sides.

Friday 13 February 2026 Children's Mental Health Week The theme for Children's Mental Health Week 2026 has been This is My Place and the aim has been to support children to help them to feel that they belong. The children in the Star Suite have been focusing on what it means to belong.

Thursday 12 February 2026 Year 3's Visit to Sunderland Winter Gardens Last week, Year 3 visited Sunderland Winter Gardens to enhance our knowledge of Tropical Rainforests. During our workshop, we learnt about the animals that we might find in different layers of the rainforest. The children were so engaged and excited to share their knowledge throughout the morning. Whilst walking around the Winter Gardens, we collected photos of plants to use within our upcoming 'Tropical Rainforest' art unit.

Wednesday 11 February 2026 People Who Help Us This half term in Nursery, we have been busy learning all about People Who Help Us. The children have thoroughly enjoyed exploring the important roles of people who help to keep us safe, healthy and happy in our community.

Thursday 5 February 2026 Tiny Tasters Visit Nursery At the beginning of term, our nursery children had a fantastic time taking part in a food workshop with Tiny Tasters. The children made delicious Sweet Potato Lollipops, using a wide range of practical skills including cutting, measuring and stirring.

Friday 30 January 2026 Year 6a - Kandinsky In Year 6, we have been covering the topic of displacement within art and focussing on artists who have been forced to leave their home countries. We began by looking at work created by Kurt Schwitter and then attempted to use a range of materials to create similar collages using Schwitter's work as inspiration. Following this, we then moved onto studying Wassily Kandinsky, an artist who suffered from Synesthesia (a condition whereby someone sees colour when they hear sounds). The children then created their own artwork pieces in the style of Kandinsky.

Thursday 29 January 2026 First Aid Year 4 This week in forest school, the children had an amazing session learning all about first aid. This included how to to do CPR and hold a baby in case of emergencies.

Friday 23 January 2026 First Aid in Year 3 During our Forest School session, Year 3 took part in a Basic First Aid course. They have learnt how to be confident and helpful in a First Aid Incident including: how to phone the emergency services and what information to give, how to use clothing to stop blood loss, how to safely hold a baby, how to use a DEFIB and conduct CPR. The children were so engaged and demonstrated what they learnt with confidence!

Friday 23 January 2026 Year 6 PE Leadership Year 6 have really enjoyed creating a piece of word art to show the qualities they believe make a good leader in sport. They worked together to share ideas and chose words such as teamwork, confidence, fairness and respect, reflecting what they have learned about positive leadership during PE lessons.

Friday 23 January 2026 Square stamping This week in Reception, the children explored four-sided shapes through a fun and creative printing activity. Using Lego bricks and paint, they stamped a variety of four-sided shapes and experimented with arranging them in different ways. The children discovered that by combining these shapes, they could create new four-sided shapes, helping them to develop their understanding of shape, space and pattern.

Friday 23 January 2026 Visit to Gibside School January 2026 Miss Oliphant took a group of children to visit Gibside School for a lesson on the trampolines and everyone had a fantastic time. The session enhanced the children's movement, it improved their balance, boosted their fitness and supported their communication skills. It was fun! Friday 16 January 2026 Star Suite Tiny Tasters cookery class The children in the Star Suite thoroughly enjoyed their Tiny Tasters cookery class. They made oaty snowballs to link in with their winter theme. Throughout the session, the children developed and practised many skills. They needed to listen to instructions, measure the ingredients and mix them together. It was lovely to see them applying their fine motor skills when they used scissors to cut the dates and manipulated small measuring spoons to scoop the oats and raisins. At the end of the day, they were given a recipe card to take home along with the oaty snowballs that they had made earlier in the day. Delicious!

Friday 19 December 2025 Year 3/4 Christmas Party Year 3 and 4 had a brilliant time at their Christmas Party. We played some games and impressed us with their dance moves!

Friday 19 December 2025 Star Suite Christmas Stay and Play 2025 The children had a lovely time during the Christmas Stay and Play in the Star Suite. They enjoyed decorating Christmas biscuits, wrapping parcels, making cards and building in Santa's workshop. They also made Rudolph decorations to hang on their Christmas tree. Merry Christmas to everyone from the children and staff in the Star Suite.

Thursday 18 December 2025 Nativity in Reception Reception truly shone in their wonderful performance of A Little Nativity. The children sang with confidence, danced with enthusiasm and acted beautifully as they shared the story in front of a delighted audience of parents and their peers the previous day. Every child played their part with focus and pride, and all of the speakers spoke clearly and confidently, projecting their voices brilliantly. The audience was amazed by how polished and professional the performance was, especially for such a young group of children. Their hard work, commitment and teamwork were clear to see, and we could not be prouder of everything they achieved.

Thursday 18 December 2025 Reception Christmas Party 2025 Reception had a wonderful festive party filled with fun and excitement. The children enjoyed playing party games such as musical statues and pass the parcel, sharing lots of laughter along the way. The celebrations became even more magical when they were visited by a giant Gingerbread Man and Santa Claus, much to everyone's delight. After all the excitement, the children sat together to enjoy their snacks, making it a truly special and memorable time for all.

Thursday 18 December 2025 Year 4 DT project In Autumn 2, Year 4 explored systems, levers and linkages. We looked at two different systems with reciprocating and oscillating levers.
