Year 1a, Spring term RfP

At the end of our spring 1 term, the children took part in a ‘Book Blanket’ session.  A ‘Book Blanket’ is a large spread of books placed all around an inviting reading space (like our classroom!).  The children were given a specific statements to focus on that included:

-‘Find a book which you like the front cover of’

-‘Find a  book about something you are interested in’ and

-‘Find a book that you think will make you laugh’.

Once the focus had been introduced the children explored and browsed the books for 2-3 minutes and brought back a book that answered the statement.  Once on the carpet with their chosen books, the children were encouraged to tell us why they chose that specific book which encouraged some amazing book talk.  At the end of the session, the children were encouraged to choose their favourite book to look at alone or to share with a friend. 

 

  

This half term (spring 2), we had our second trip to Pelaw library.  At the library, we listened to some Easter themed stories and the librarian read her favourite picture book to us.  During our visit, our class split into two small groups.  Whilst one group browsed and looked at the books (ready to loan and take one back to school), the other completed some Easter art and colouring activities.

 

The children have loved taking part in our reading afternoons and we can’t wait to see what our summer reading events are.
