Year 3/4 Visit to 'The Sill'
As part of the children's Prehistoric Britain topic, the Year 3/4 pupils went on a visit to 'The Sill: National Landscape Discovery Centre'. The centre is in is the south of the Northumberland National Park - about 60 miles from Wardley Primary - not far from Haltwhilstle.
On a crisp autumn day, the children enjoyed their journey through the beautiful english countryside whilst spotting the various different farm animals, wildlife and landscapes.
Once at the centre, the children had the opportunutity to take part in a prehistroic workshop, complete a treasure hunt and explore the different exhibitions. During the workshop, the children became archeologists by exploring different artefacts from the Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age. The children handled the different items and had to decided how they were used in each time period.
After lunch, despite the chilly conditions, the children had the opportunity to see Hadrian's Wall. Lead by Rangers, Doug and Carole, the children walked to view Peels Crag and Crag Lough. Doug talked about how the wall was built and preserved today.
It was a great day and the children were a credit to the school. Thanks again for the all the parent volunteers who helped support the children throughout the day - it was much appreciated.
